Math Test: A Few Hints and Tips

Hello Portable 10!  As you know, you guys have a math test this coming Monday.  Here are a few tips that may help you solve those pesky probability word problems:

  1. Draw pictures or charts to help you find all possible outcomes
  2. Make tally charts to help you figure out the probability of certain questions
  3. Please read the questions carefully, and if you don't understand it, ask Mr. Chong to explain it
  4. Use your time wisely and make sure you answer every question before time ends
It is probably a good idea to know how to do the following things before the test on Monday:

  • How to solve for the probability of an outcome in different situations
  • How to use the language "certain," "likely, "equally likely," "unlikely," and "impossible" correctly
  • The difference between good and bad odds
  • How to read, understand, and answer word problems correctly
  • How to "show your thinking"
You might be telling yourself that these are the same things that you needed to know for the math quiz.  If you did, then you are correct!  There will be no surprises on the math test on Monday, and if you have been doing your homework regularly and paying attention in class, you should be in good shape!

Good luck!
